crafty comedown

before crafty bastards this past saturday
was all late night hammering,
near misses with the table saw,
and pricing dilemmas...

but the sun rose on my saturday
and it was all smiles and monica
sitting next to me as a fellow vendor,
fun, friendly dc kids, plenty-o-dogs,
awkward performance art,
insight into our chakras thru soap,
friends & fam passing through..
seeing my crazy coworkers on the weekend
parting with a photo i really liked
but it is now someone's first artwork in their new house...

the weekend went on with two awe-inspiring movies
first up was serenity which rekindled my love for firefly
it was just so different than any other movies
with smart dialog, three-dimensional characters,
drained of the hypermasculinity of most action movies and
replaced with real humanity...i could go on at length...
then, as part of our lazy amble of a sunday we
went to our 2nd movie mirrormask brought to you
by neil gaiman, dave mckean & the jim henson co.
it was very visually appealing but left me wanting more
and it kept reminding me of parts of other movies...

but neil gaiman has won my heart back with
his new book anansi boys which deals with
gods and their family problems but it all relates
back to the stories of anansi the spider who was a trickster
here's the first part i had to stop and write down...

"in the stories, anansi is a spider, but he is also a man.
It is not hard to keep two things in your head
at the same time. even a child could do it."
