my so-called blog
Last night Dan attempted to make his birthday last forever by
keeping me up til 4:30am watching episode after episode of My So-Called Life, not that i was complaining, in fact i was so overjoyed that this show lived up to-and maybe even surpassed-my glorified memories of it.
Angela (the main disgruntled character) can deliver these really profound ideas that are perfectly peppered with "like"s and "whatevers" and usually in the context of boy obsessions or zits... sure she's a typical depressed teenager but i really admire how wholeheartedly she gives herself over to all of her feelings and causes.
And, in other exciting news, they are making a sequel to the Dark Crystal!

I am very glad that MSCL lived up to your memories. we must watch it again. although I will say that I cannot abide by the mother, as she hits all of my buttons. I still cannot say the word "swab."
But why is it that I am utterly infected with the glee you must be feeling about the Dark Crystal sequel?? ohmigod. how cool is that going to be?
and of course: do you think they'll make a sequel to Willow? Labyrinth? it could be truly amazing....
"Like chewing. Like how people just do it. In public."
What strikes me about MSCL is that it's incredibly truthful (and still funny and entertaining) -- like, to a point that I can't really recall seeing on television before or after.
Also, it's really accurate to that 15/16 year-old place in your life and in your brain, where everything becomes distorted and you feel so deeply about how wrong and fake and conformist the world around you is. However, what you do with that while watching it now is either laugh at it (silly stupid over-emotional teenagers! ha!) or try to remember it fully and absorb it a bit -- to get back to that keen insight that a 15 year old has access to. That's why watching and re-watching MSCL is, like, a worthwhile activity...or whatever.
I love how Dan tried to make is birthday last as long as possible! hahaha
And I use to love MSCL but I can't remember much so I'll need to watch it again. I really like Reanne in the show.
