brother butter

fireworks flare despite soggy conditions
aftershocks of lightning curl around clouds
gunshots set lightning bugs into a frantic pulse
hear the heavy flaps of knowing wings
and you will make it home safely...

storm king

" the monarch's nickname is 'storm king'.
That it is always most active before a storm.
She had seem them, hadn't she?
Sailing in the electrified air,
beating head-on into the gusty thunderclouds,
reveling in the boisterous winds."

-Tom Robbins,
Another Roadside Attraction

Only Tom Robbins could make me paint a butterfly...
it was him and the hot summer nights...
beautiful brides and full moons.

it's not done yet but i thought it'd be fun
to track its progress as it develops...
to watch myself get carried away
while looking back at what it was
in its earlier stages.

it’s that time of year

fireworks endlessly echo and flash
through the alleyways outside my window.
there seems to be an unending supply

indoors i feel as though
i am in a brick oven,
shedding layers,
and sleeping on top of my sheets

electricians woke me up again,
but magically reduced
our potential fire hazard
and made me realize
how cool a light switch can be.

got free tickets to a play.
Big Death and Little Death
it it was packed with teen angst,
car crashes and the apocalypse.
My kinda play.
