52 O Street Studios52 O Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 Building Announcements: Art Studios at 52 O Street NW A commune of sorts for residents of the Washington DC arts community, 52 O Street studios has become a fixture in the city since its inception in the late 1970's. For decades it has been both home and studio space to many artists, and remains that way today. The large, brick structure was built in the early 1900's as a warehouse space, and the spirit of the building seems intact -- the creative industry abounds. Twice a year artists in the building open their studio doors to participate in the North of Massachusetts Avenue (NOMA) Arts Coalition Open Studios event. The Open Studios involve 4 buildings and over 30 area artists, and are a great way to experience both established and emerging artists by viewing the magical spaces where they live and work. It is a casual, friendly atmosphere, and a fun way to spend a day exploring less-discovered parts of Washington. The most recent open studio event occured in October 2004. Check back for more information on the upcoming 2005 Spring Open Studios at 52 O Street. Directions for Visitors (by appointment only): Inside Washington DC:
